Erode Turmeric

Erode turmeric, Erode Manjal in Tamil, has carried a registered Geographical Indication since March 2019. It comes from Erode district and parts of Coimbatore and Tirupur, where the Erode local cultivar, also called Chinna Nadan, makes up most of the crop. Erode is one of India's main turmeric trading centres, and Tamil Nadu grew 167,082 tonnes in 2024-25, the second-largest crop in the country.

Geodhara International sources Erode turmeric through our supplier network in Erode and the surrounding districts of Tamil Nadu. Fingers and bulbs are boiled, sun dried and polished, graded to AGMARK standards and tested per lot for curcumin, moisture and food safety, with Salem lots from the neighbouring district on request.

Our target markets include Bangladesh, the UAE, Morocco, Malaysia, and the USA. For spice grinders, curcumin and oleoresin extractors, food manufacturers, and importers there, we offer consistent bulk supply, competitive pricing, and full export documentation.

FAQs

Erode Manjal, or Erode turmeric, was registered as a Geographical Indication on 6 March 2019 under GI application 231. Its proprietor is the Erode Manjal Vanigarkal Matrum Kidangu Urimaiyalargal Sangam, an association of Erode turmeric traders and warehouse owners. The GI covers both fingers and bulbs of the Erode local cultivar grown in Erode district and parts of Coimbatore and Tirupur.
Mainly Erode local, known as Chinna Nadan, which occupies more than 70% of the turmeric area in Erode and Coimbatore districts. Tamil Nadu Agricultural University's BSR-2, bred at Bhavanisagar in Erode district, is also grown, and ICAR-IISR rates it at 3.8% curcumin and 20% dry recovery. We test every lot and state its curcumin on the certificate of analysis.
Erode is one of India's main turmeric trading centres, with regulated markets in Erode and at Gobichettipalayam. New crop is harvested from January to March and held in the region's warehouses through the year, so we supply Erode turmeric year round.
We offer 25 kg and 50 kg new jute or PP bags and cartons, with custom private-label packaging to suit your market requirements.
We provide complete export documentation including phytosanitary certificate, certificate of origin, fumigation certificate where the destination requires it, NABL lab test reports, and shipping documents. Geodhara International is registered with the Spices Board of India as a spice exporter.
