FAQs
Five South Indian origins: Nizamabad fingers and Nizamabad bulbs from Telangana, Erode from Tamil Nadu, and Duggirala and Kadapa from Andhra Pradesh. Nizamabad and Duggirala are mainly the Duggirala Red variety, Erode is the GI-registered Erode local cultivar, and Kadapa is the Mydukur type. Each origin has its own page with specifications.
Curcumin depends mainly on variety and typically runs about 3% to 5%. In a 2023 trial at Telangana's horticultural university, Duggirala Red measured 3.43%, the Salem cultivar (named after the Tamil Nadu district and also grown in Telangana) 4.49% and IISR Pragati 4.89%, and ICAR-IISR rates Pragati at about 5% across locations. Every lot is tested in an NABL-accredited laboratory and its curcumin is stated on the certificate of analysis. We contract a minimum where your formulation needs one.
We supply fingers, bulbs and splits, polished or unpolished, graded to India's AGMARK standards. Fingers are the cured secondary rhizomes, usually 2.5 to 7.5 cm long; bulbs are the rounder mother rhizomes and are sold as a separate grade. AGMARK Special fingers must be hard, with a metallic snap on breaking, and carry at most 2% broken pieces, 1% foreign matter, 0.5% defectives and 2% bulbs; Good allows 3%, 1.5%, 1% and 3%, and Fair 5%, 2%, 1.5% and 5%.
Each lot is checked against India's FSSAI standard for whole turmeric, which caps moisture at 12% and extraneous matter at 1% and requires a negative lead chromate test, and against your market's limits for aflatoxins, ochratoxin A, pesticide residues, lead and Sudan dyes. For the EU that means aflatoxin B1 5 µg/kg, total aflatoxins 10 µg/kg, ochratoxin A 15 µg/kg and lead 1.5 mg/kg. Where a destination requires it, such as ethylene oxide checks for Singapore and Hong Kong, consignments also go through Spices Board pre-shipment sampling and testing.
Turmeric is planted with the early monsoon rains and harvested seven to nine months later, generally from January to March. The rhizomes are boiled within three or four days of harvest and sun dried for 10 to 15 days, so new crop reaches the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh markets from about February. Dried fingers store well, and we supply year round from the season's stock.
Tell us the variety or origin, fingers or bulbs, polished or unpolished, AGMARK grade, minimum curcumin, maximum moisture, the residue and contaminant limits of your market, and your packing and labelling. We confirm each point against a pre-shipment sample and the certificate of analysis before the container is loaded.
We offer 25 kg and 50 kg new jute or PP bags and cartons, with custom private-label packaging to suit your market requirements.
We provide complete export documentation including phytosanitary certificate, certificate of origin, fumigation certificate where the destination requires it, NABL lab test reports, and shipping documents. Geodhara International is registered with the Spices Board of India as a spice exporter.
