Tamil Nadu Turmeric

Tamil Nadu grew 167,082 tonnes of turmeric in 2024-25, the second-largest crop in the country. The crop is concentrated in the western districts of the state, home to some of India's main turmeric trading centres, where the local Chinna Nadan cultivar makes up most of the area.

Geodhara International sources Tamil Nadu turmeric through our supplier network in the western districts of the state. Fingers and bulbs are boiled, sun dried and polished, graded to AGMARK standards and tested per lot for curcumin, moisture and food safety, with lots from Salem district on request.

FAQs

From the western districts of Tamil Nadu, one of India's main turmeric belts: the state grew 167,082 tonnes in 2024-25, the second-largest crop in the country. We buy through our supplier network there, lots from Salem district can be supplied on request, and every lot is documented with its Tamil Nadu origin.
Mainly the local Chinna Nadan cultivar, which occupies more than 70% of the turmeric area in the state's main growing districts. Tamil Nadu Agricultural University's BSR-2, bred at its Bhavanisagar research station, is also grown, and ICAR-IISR rates it at 3.8% curcumin and 20% dry recovery. We test every lot and state its curcumin on the certificate of analysis.
Western Tamil Nadu has some of India's main turmeric trading centres, including the regulated market at Gobichettipalayam. New crop is harvested from January to March and held in the region's warehouses through the year, so we supply Tamil Nadu turmeric year round.
We pack Tamil Nadu Turmeric in 25 kg and 50 kg new jute or PP bags or cartons. A 20 ft container holds approx. 13 MT and a 40 ft container holds approx. 26 MT. Private-label packing is available.
Every shipment of Tamil Nadu Turmeric comes with a phytosanitary certificate, a certificate of origin and the shipping documents, plus a fumigation certificate where the destination requires it. Each lot is tested for aflatoxins, ochratoxin A, pesticide residues, heavy metals and Sudan dyes against destination-country limits. NABL lab reports are supplied. Geodhara International is registered with the Spices Board of India as a spice exporter.
