Black Matpe

Black matpe, also called black gram or urad (Vigna mungo), is one of Asia's most important pulses. It is prized for its high protein content and for the binding and fermentation qualities that idli and dosa batter depend on, and is traded whole and as split urad dal.

Geodhara International sources black matpe mainly from Andhra Pradesh - India's second-largest producer, with about a fifth of the national crop, led by Krishna district and the LBG 752 variety - together with Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Available whole (sabut urad), split with husk (chilka) and split without husk (white urad dal), each lot is cleaned, sortexed and graded to buyer specification.

Our target markets include Bangladesh, the USA, the UAE and the UK, where we supply pulse traders, food manufacturers and ethnic grocery distributors with consistent quality and full export documentation.

FAQs

Black matpe is the export trade name for black gram, or urad (Vigna mungo) - the same bean. We export it whole (sabut urad), split with husk (chilka urad dal) and split without husk (white urad dal).
Indian black matpe typically contains 24% to 26% protein, making it one of the most protein-dense pulses. Exact levels vary by crop season and growing region.
Mainly from Andhra Pradesh, India's second-largest urad producer, where Krishna district leads, and from Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Geodhara International does not own farms, factories or warehouses - we coordinate supply, quality checks and export.
We pack Black Matpe in 25 kg and 50 kg PP or jute bags; 1 MT bulk bags; 1 kg to 5 kg consumer packs. A 20 ft container holds approx. 25 MT and a 40 ft container holds approx. 27 MT. Private-label packing is available.
Black matpe has two crop seasons in India - Kharif (Sep - Nov harvest) and Rabi (Feb - Apr harvest) - which gives broad availability through the year.
