Nizamabad Turmeric Bulbs (Gattah)

Turmeric bulbs are the central mother rhizomes of Curcuma longa, rounder, shorter and thicker than the fingers that branch from them. They are separated at harvest and cured on their own, because they need longer boiling and drying. Nizamabad bulbs are a recognised trade grade, known in the Indian turmeric trade as gattah (Hindi haldi gattha), and usually sell below fingers, which makes them a cost-effective raw material for grinding.

Geodhara International sources Nizamabad bulbs through our supplier network across Nizamabad, Jagtial and Nirmal in Telangana. Lots are boiled, sun dried and polished, supplied whole or as splits, graded to AGMARK standards and tested per lot for curcumin, moisture and food safety.

Our target markets include Bangladesh, the UAE, Morocco, Malaysia, and the USA. For spice grinders, curcumin and oleoresin extractors, food manufacturers, and trade buyers there, we offer consistent bulk supply, competitive pricing, and full export documentation.

FAQs

How do turmeric bulbs differ from fingers?

Bulbs are the central mother rhizomes; fingers are the secondary rhizomes that branch from them. Bulbs are rounder and thicker, so they are cured separately, boiling for about 90 minutes against 45 to 60 for fingers, and take longer to dry. They are more fibrous to grind, which is why they usually trade below fingers.

What grades apply to turmeric bulbs?

India's AGMARK standards grade bulbs as Special, Good or Fair. Special allows at most 1% foreign matter and 1% defectives, Good 1.5% and 3%, and Fair 2% and 5%. Bulbs must be well developed, smooth, free from rootlets, fully dry and free from weevil damage, fungus and artificial colour. We also supply splits, which are bulbs cut in halves or quarters for curing.

What are turmeric bulbs used for?

Mainly for grinding and for oleoresin and curcumin extraction, where buyers want colour and curcumin at a lower raw-material cost than fingers. Grinders often blend bulbs with fingers to reach a target colour and price. Each lot's curcumin is tested and stated on its certificate of analysis.

What packaging options are available?

We pack Nizamabad Turmeric Bulbs (Gattah) in 25 kg and 50 kg new jute or PP bags or cartons. A 20 ft container holds approx. 13 MT and a 40 ft container holds approx. 26 MT.

What export documentation do you provide?

Every shipment of Nizamabad Turmeric Bulbs (Gattah) comes with a phytosanitary certificate, a certificate of origin and the shipping documents, plus a fumigation certificate where the destination requires it. Each lot is tested for aflatoxins, ochratoxin A, pesticide residues, heavy metals and Sudan dyes against destination-country limits. NABL lab reports are supplied. Geodhara International is registered with the Spices Board of India as a spice exporter.
